Illustration Friday: The Balance (Fearless)

"The Balance" was created for a story about an old hare who decides to give himself up, after a long chase by the wolf. He decides to sacrifice himself because he can see that the wolf is very hungry and in need after a long and hard winter. He realizes that it is simply nature's balance for him, his life will go on in the sustenance provided to the wolf and his family.

This is a beautiful illo. I have mixed emotions about the tale that you descibe going along with it. Very interesting all around.

It seems like they're comfortably engaged in a serious talk, indeed. I can imagine them having some tea while doing it! :D

Beautifully done!

I really love the illustration, but I can't agree with the sentiment. NO living being would willingly give up his/her life for anything other than his/her own children (or genetic continuance). Great great details in the picture!

The expression on the rabbit's face clearly shows he's made that decision. I'm thinking the wolf befriends him and spares him :)
